This past Saturday marked the beginning of the Dunedin Enduro Series, with the first race taking place at the Pineapple Track and Redwoods/Wakari Creek. A group of 58 racers was greeted by fantastic weather that promised a great day of riding ahead. Shortly after registration and the race briefing, the pack departed from the car park for the first, and arguably most grueling, uphill of the day. A steady, steep climb up to the summit of Pineapple Track left many of the riders in the granny gear or dismounting completely to push their bikes to the top. Following the arduous first climb the racers were treated with the first downhill stage of the day. The fast and flowy top section...
This past weekend, the 2016 Linger and Die MTB series kicked off in Alexandra. Greeted by amazing weather and solid track conditions, the Bike Otago crew took the Enduro course by storm on Sunday. Kashi, Jeremy, Ethan, Jake, Jayden, and Felix all competed in the race and put up some incredible times for the track. Leading the group with a blistering time of 22:51, Ethan placed second in the Senior Men's division, with Jake coming in just two minutes later for an 8th place finish. Jeremy and Kashi took 3rd and 11th in the Men's 30-39 class respectively, Jayden nabbed 5th in Junior Men's and Felix rode away with 6th in U17 Men's. Check out a small gallery below of...
Not only is this time of year when we get to see all of next season's rides from the top bike brands, it's also when we get to see all the sweet new gear from some of our favorite parts and accessories brands. Lezyne has been leading the game in strong, long-lasting pumps for quite some time (they're our go to for all of our shop pumps), and they have just released their new line of Pressure Over Drive Pumps. Gone are the days of struggling to properly seat your tubeless tires with a standard floor pump or finding a mate with an air compressor. The Pressure Over Drive is a floor pump that features an integrated air chamber system...
Always wanted to ride one of the newest bikes on the market but don't have the money to drop into a brand new bike? Well, you're in luck. Updated for 2017, The Anthem 1 is Giant's performance XC Ninja, tackling everything from steep climbs to technical descents with ease. Its new trunnion-mount Maestro rear suspension system delivers you 110mm of rear travel, with 120mm of Fox 34 Performance Elite suspension up front. Sitting on a 27.5" wheelset and driven by a Shimano Deore XT drivetrain, the Anthem 1 is sure to take on any trail you put in its way....
Over the next few weeks we'll be interviewing each of our wonderful staff here at Bike Otago to give you a little glimpse into the people behind the job. We decided to start out with none other than Joel Anderson. It seems like you've been around here for forever, how long have you been a bike mechanic? (Shrugs and laughs) ... a long time. I'd probably have to check my Inland Revenue forms to figure out exactly. I've worked for Bike Otago for about 7 years, I originally started working building bikes when the shop was still owned by Greg Leov. Once Kashi took over I became the workshop manager. What's your favorite part about the mountain biking community...
